Worship With Us
Sunday worship is the heart of our life together—a place to gather, sing, pray, reflect, and find strength for the week ahead. Whether church has always been part of your life, you’re returning after some time away, or you’re simply curious, you are welcome here.
What worship is like
Sunday worship at the Congregational Church of Topsfield is rooted in the Christian tradition. On a typical Sunday, you’ll hear scripture and a sermon, sing together, share prayers, and make space for both reflection and community.
We don’t expect everyone in the room to think or believe exactly the same way. Questions are welcome here. We hope worship gives us room to encounter God, listen to one another, and practice the love, courage, and compassion we want to carry into the world.
A typical Sunday
No two Sundays are exactly alike, but our worship usually follows a familiar rhythm.
GATHER
We come together as we are, greet one another, and prepare our hearts for worship.
LISTEN
We hear scripture read and explored, trusting that ancient words can still speak to our lives today.
REFLECT
Through preaching, prayer, music, and silence, we make room to listen for God and to one another.
RESPOND
We pray for our neighbors and our world, share our gifts, and consider how faith takes shape in our lives.
GO
We leave worship carrying what we have received into our homes, relationships, community, and world.
Children are a part of worship
Children aren’t an interruption to worship—they’re part of our worshiping community. Children of all ages are welcome to stay for the entire service, and worship bags and children’s bulletins are available.
On most Sundays, children in grades K–6 begin in the Meetinghouse with everyone else. Partway through worship, they are invited to Sunday School in the Emerson Center, where they continue exploring faith together in age-appropriate ways.
COMMUNION
Everyone is welcome at the table
We celebrate Communion regularly as a reminder of God’s grace and of the community Christ calls us to become.
This is an open table. You do not need to be a member of this church—or any church—to participate. If you wish to receive Communion, you are welcome. Children are welcome at the table, too.
Music is part of how we worship
Music helps us pray, celebrate, reflect, and experience our life together in ways words alone cannot.
Our worship includes congregational singing alongside music offered by our choir, organ and piano, instrumentalists, and musicians of many ages. The styles may change from Sunday to Sunday, but the goal is the same: music that helps all of us participate in worship.
